Stockholm Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2012: Dagmar

London has Christopher Kane, New York has Alexander Wang, in Stockholm, since Acne's long since flown the coop, they have Dagmar. You may remember the bewitching blonde sisters I interviewed a few months ago (revisit that moment here), at home in their element, as the buzz on runwayside during the three-day-week that constitutes Stockholm Fashion Week chugged along, it was clear that Dagmar was the show everyone was waiting for.

When we tucked into the venue, where the design trio had partnered with Absolute to rain down cocktails upon us (a welcome wetness after a prolonged dry stint during afternoon shows), it quickly became evident why. The Dagmar aesthetic is a truly defined brand, one with a devoted following (that includes yours truly) and one that continues to evolve from season to season.

Where last Spring Summer saw an emphasis on prints, this season returned to the brand's core DNA which focuses on superb knitwear and creating the illusion of print and depth of fabric with texture.

Knitted outwear with shaggy sleeves, crocheted sexy floor-length evening dresses, and layered fine-spun jumpers and pencil skirts, it was all there in a collection dedicated to two icons of Swedish femininity (perhaps womanhood is a better word): renowned early 20th century Swedish colourist Sigrid Hjertén and Dragon Tattooed fictional heroine Lisbeth Salander.

By bringing these two ends of the spectrum together, namely Hjertén's quintessentially Swedish affinity for bright colors (what is Marimekko?) married with the nations' darker undercurrent that has a penchant to push beyond brooding into goth.

But when the first look emerged, a hand-spun full length striped shaggy rug of a gilet emerged--Lisbeth, Sigrid, it suddenly didn't matter. All that mattered was that I want that rug-gilet in my wardrobe, now!
