NYFW SS11 Day 6: Mulberry on the roof at Soho House

Whisperer's Show Notes

Key Trends Checklist: Electric blue and ample use of silk
Hits: ALL the accessories, canvas trenches and pretty pretty pretty floral textured pieces (skirt, jumpsuit, dress)
Misses:A bubblegum pink satin varsity-style jacket with ruffle trim, reminds me way too much of the Pink Ladies
Production: Gorgeous rooftop venue-blue skies, rose filled pool, couches, what more could a girl ask for on Day 6?
Overall Verdict: No one does pretty, prim and proper like the British and Mulberry proved it to NYC that afternoon

Mulberry's collection, shows for it's NYFW installment atop the roof of Soho House on a perfect crisp early autumn day, was the ultimate girly girl treat, fresh from London. After a collection rife with the revival of a 90's CK minimalism, Mulberry was a moment of intense girly color, structure and truly amazing accessories. Paper doll and matching doggy cutouts waited patiently on each and every seat (read: white slipcovered couches surrounding a giant-rose filled pool) whilst guests sipped on lemonade cocktails and munched Victoria spongecakes, such a treat after the over-air conditioned shell that comprises the main venue tents. The models comprised a flock of gingers, adding to the flurry of color and breathing a vitality into a season who's casting has looked to the bony, bland and bald (!!).

The Alexa was reworked in a slouchy canvas for spring, backpacks in tiger stripes appeared and little wee-satchels were hitched to the ginger haired models' waists. Weekend sized Bayswaters in jewel tones and textured leathers (faux python mmmmmm) meant the thought crossed my mind of casually extending a foot from my seat, tripping one of the ginger beauties and grabbing the bag from her hands just before she plunged into the pool. Trouble is, from the roof of the 7th floor, my escape routes would have been limited. Creative Director Emma Hill took her final bow in a hoodie, poor thing still had to prepare to show the collection all over again today in London at Claridges (Butters will be in attendance in her new Mulberry coat).
