With a strong belief in a "return to craft," Maestre only sources natural and recycled materials such as big pieces of bull horn and bone, raw amber, natural Amazon seeds, driftwood, shed antlers and the like in the making of her ridiculously oversized, jawdroppingly beautiful tribal creations. Give me a loin cloth and I shall relinquish the blogosphere so as to become a hunting and gathering nomad--so long as I can track the bison fully adorned in Maestre's creations.
And the editorials featuring her pieces are equally powerful, so much so that I feel the need to share some with you here. She has also created some spectacular runway pieces to accompany the collections of Toronto-based design duo's label, Greta Constantine.

Maestre only started making jewellery at the end of 2006, and through her work (the Whisperer is all about this!), seeks to "create a dialogue with nature." And with her serious conversation-starter bull horn cuffs and entwined antler collars, I think she's succeeded in doing not only just that, but taking the conversation one step further, she's engaged us, nature and fashion in a gripping and gorgeous discourse which I hope will last for many seasons to come.

oh so cool!
this stuff is amazing! i have a thing for deer too, hence the name of my blog :)
Oh, deer! It is so organic! the dialogue with nature is working very well with the deer field. Love the giant white "horn" necklace! looks great on the white dress--very Japanese wabi sabi style!
Oh, deer! Love the white "bone" necklace on the white dress! very japanese zen-like,i.e. wabi-sabi style. fantstic!
Wow that's really cool. I like the shoot with Greta Constantine. Great stuff!

great site! I love the name!!
can you buy it in Europe? On her website it's just Canada and the US. Boo
It was all feeling very tribal and african to me, but now that you mention it, I suppose there is a "zen" element going on. I guess there is something inherently zen about using only natural byproducts like she's done, communing with nature and all that. Love how interesting design is interpreted differently by different people...that's the real individualism aspect of fashion!
This is art. I love stuff like this its speaks to our inner animal.
good question! Love to get the bone necklace!
