(mini) STYLE WHISPERING: Armand Basi

Armand Basi--or Armand Basi One, as the runway label is called--does its eponymous one-off collection a nominal bit of lip service as, unfortunately, all I could really find in the Westbourne Grove shop worthy of provoking whispers of glee, was in fact ONE solitary item. Whilst the exaggerated wool harem pants either in fine pleat grey or black, were lovely items, as accordions for your lower half, they took the trend beyond the justification of wearable investment, and are more of an item with which it is fun to experiment in store before you buckle on down to Topshop for a more reigned in, more wallet-friendly version to test-drive in the real world beyond the fitting room.

Sheer blouses, check. Bejewelled party-time frocks, check. Sweeping evening gowns meant to look young on account of a tee-shirted silhouette here or a jersey fabric there--check. The only piece that got me somewhat excited was a structured black silk pointed shoulders double breasted 80s style power blazer. For lack of anything else meriting equal sartorial enthusiasm, I decided to just prance around the shop in the jacket as dress. Armand Basi is known for his menswear, after all, so I shouldn't have really been so shocked to find the women's pickings somewhat lackluster. However, if mens tailoring for women is spot on, as this blazer was, there really is no need for silly accessories such as pants. Let the suiting speak for itself.
