Ciao Roma: Fashionista vs Scholarista 1

Why do I live in London again? Rome, seriously, it is the mecca for all things quintessentially me, that is, an inexplicable jumble of the Classical past and the sartorial present. The crumbling remains of the sunken Forum winking up at the shiny Prada windows of the Via Condotti and me perfectly hung in the balance between. It is truly the place where my inner fashionista and scholarista can happily coexist in the open, where one need not negate the other and both are held in equal respect.

I've been coming here ever since I was a very little girl with my family, but this trip is the first time I've truly landed squarely on my feet in la citta eterna armed with working SLR (poor lens bit the dust upon arrival in Roma on this summer's sojourn) and a full on blogger's conscious. Yesterday, given that I have a masters in the literature of the place and have resided here twice in the earlier days of my bygone misspent youth, I spent the morning and afternoon fulfilling a responsibility twofold: showing my Rome-virgin boyfriend around the Classical highlights in full on lecture mode, snickering at the shameless errors of the actual tour guides, deciphering Latin inscriptions with glee and posing in my dream shoot location in my somewhat stereotyped scholar outfit--vintage tweed blazer with art deco pin (thanks, Bert!), vintage fur hat, leggings, boots and Zadig goatskin bag. Voila. The Vergil lover did not yield to the Miuccia devotee, and for one day, my two halves coexisted in perfect symbiotic harmony.

Today's plan, however, on account of my staunch refusal to be herded for the millionth time through the winding halls of the Vatican Museum, calls for an indulgence of the fashion side: an exploration of the city's splendiferous vintage offerings...Via Governo Vecchio: here comes Mamma.
