Blow me

Slogging on with the press days. Blow PR, who represents the best of the best of London's up and coming and behind Blow Presents during LFW, had their press day last week. And, as expected, it was the usual amalgam of the quirky, eccentric, just plain bizarre and downright unwearable--all the things that make the stylist in me really tick.

Due to the after-laze which ensued upon my return from NYFW and my refusal to battle multiple stalled underground lines whilst attempting to reach Somerset House from Notting Hill on a Sunday, I missed many of these shows. So to see the rubber panties of Gemma Slack and twisted licorice armour jumpsuits of
Iris Van Herpen, Nutcracker-esque theatrical adorned delights of Qasimi and the full on skirts, heavily beaded and chain mail ornate shoulder adornments from Avsh Alom Gur which could double as Medieval meets Middle Eastern head garb and dresses concocted out of massive wigs from Charlie le Mindu, was a real treat.

Fashion starts here, with the first breath of unnurtured creativity being given the right support and allowed to run riot and, well, blow up. While the sterile runways of the BFC main tent host the avant garde likes of Jaeger and Paul Costello, the real movers and shakers, the throbbing artistic undercurrent chomping at the East End bit, is the true driving force of London's prominence on the sartorial map. The convergence of art and fashion, the conceptual and the tangible, pushing the boundaries of what it means to make a garment, these are the facets behind the design ethos which came to put the likes of Galliano, Chalayan and McQueen on a pedestal two decades ago and solidified London as a hotbed of creative design activity. This is the beat to which the London fashion scene, digging beneath the Matthew Wililamsons, the Twenty8Twelves, still dances. Yea, that's right, Matthew, I said blow me.
