There were some good things and some bad things happening at Temperley's circus themed presentation at Sketch. Side note: why has circus been such a theme this season? Anna Sui did it and Isaac and Mulberry did variations thereof. It's like, I know where in a recession but let's turn that frown upside down and go to the circus! Kind of like when a clown sticks a balloon giraffe in a crying child's face to distract and cheer him up: it only makes the kid scream even louder.

Anywho, aside from your usual chiffon gowns, assorted prints (one black and white swirl in a billowy jumpsuit was particularly lovely), and a few black studded pieces (vests and minis) thrown in to add a touch of edge, the apparel was pretty typical Temperley. All eyes in the center of the ring were on the accessories. An array of cool, studded bags: structured boxes a la Hindmarch or slouchy gathered opening studded bucket sacks. The bags, with all their hardware, just looked plain expensive, which, in my opinion, those bedazzled frocks don't always necessarily convey. There was a cute red belt with gold horse motif and puff-ball headgear complete with streaming ribbons channeling DVF A/W09. But the highlight of Temperley's offerings for spring, if you ask me, is their first ever range of footwear. Cool steel toed caramel and white brogues, studded lace up ankle boots, gladiators and strappy heels really stood out and apart from the traditional Temperley aesthetic. Funky, relaxed, and solidly made, depending on how they price them, I'd bet the shoes could really give Alice's business an invigorating boost.
